Benefits of Playing a Musical Instrument

Numerous studies around the world give indications (particularly to growing children and teenagers) that learning a musical instrument benefits brain development, concentration and learning ability.

Music has a grounding relationship to mathematics, from counting and timing to note frequencies, harmonics and volume (particularly playing in band situations). Even learning to read music is a universal language of its own.

Studies suggest children who learn music perform better academically than children who have no exposure to music. Music enhances understanding of mathematics, memory, comprehension and recollection as well as other physical playing benefits like co-ordination, listening, processing and problems solving skills.

These skills are not only used when playing an instrument, but in everyday life.
